Anzac Day
Sunbury Kangaroos v Rockbank
Last week
Sunbury Kangaroos – The Roos were still far from full strength when they took the park against Diggers Rest last Saturday. The match evolved into something spectacular as the Roos battled back from the brink of defeat to go down narrowly by two points. It was the close finish that fans had hoped for, but for the Roos, not the result. Dan Gregory was a clear stand-out across half back and lifted when the pressure was really on alongside his partner in crime, Joeb Ploog. Brenton Sutherland was the dominant key forward in the absence of Chris Meacham while Dane Pollard showed some great skill and maturity for a great young player.
Rockbank – The Rams were gallant in defeat last week when they took on Lancefield. In a game where the momentum changes were frequent, the Rams let a 21 point three quarter time lead slip to a 10 point loss. There was plenty to like about young gun Dylan Creed, kicking three goals on debut after playing Under 16 football last season. Matt Reiffel stepped up in his second game for the Rams at Senior level.
THE GAME
There is lots of pride at stake for both teams and the Anzac spirit will be well and truly alive between these two teams. Trent Corbett was in fine touch for Rockbank last week and he has a habit of lifting in big games like these. Brendan Newitt is a capable of kicking goals. He averaged nearly one a game in his last full season in 2011 and he was classy with two on the weekend. Gregory and Ploog will use their experience to hold the Rams forwards at bay while their team mates will look to use their great speed and agility all over the ground to set up plenty of goals.
