The Victorian Country Football League has given the RDFL approval to participate in the VCFL Championships next season. The league will still maintain its affiliation with AFL Victoria but the approval will provide greater opportunities for players to represent their league in a whole new ranking system. There are four divisions in the state and leagues advance through the ranking system on the basis of results in their respective division. The league received confirmation from the VCFL last Wednesday and will now take the proposal to the clubs to hear their thoughts. Should it go ahead, the RDFL will hope to fill four teams; a senior football and netball team and an Under 18s football and netball team.
"It is really exciting and will generate lots of excitement for the league," Ward said.
The RDFL played interleague matches against the Southern Football League in 2009 and 2010 but it was hard for players to keep motivated. Ward indicated that this factor may change because players will represent a largely rural league and line up against other leagues with similar demographic.
The RDFL will look to face Kybram in Kybram next year.
