IT was a tough day for the Riddell District Football League’s four under-14 and under-15 representative sides last Monday, with none able to take the points in the third round of the AFL Victoria Metropolitan Junior Championship.
In the under- 15 Division 1 compet i t i o n , t h e RDFL suffered a 52-point loss at the hands of the Yarra Junior Football League.
The RDFL trailed by only nine points at the main break but failed to score in the third quarter as the YJFL lifted to get the job done. Gisborne’s Trent Crosbie, Sunbury Lions’ Dylan Tarczon and Rupertswood’s Joel Flanigan were named the RDFL’s best.
In under-14 Division 1, the RDFL were no match for the YJFL, which steamrolled to a massive 132-point win.
M e l t o n ’ s Brock Mcgregor was the RDFL’s best player and booted the side’s only goal in the second term, while Macedon’s Julian Bramucci and Woodend’s Jaidyn Owen were also good.
It was a closer game in the under- 14 Division 2 competition though, with the RDFL going down by just a point.
Playing at Diggers Rest, the RDFL led by nine points at the final change but could not hold on at they failed to score in the final term and the South East Juniors got over the line.
Riddells Creek’s Tommy Alkemade booted two goals for the RDFL and was named the team’s best, while Sunbury Lions’ Bryleigh Doherty and Gisborne’s Brock Fitzgerald were also good.
The under-15 Division 2 side also played at Diggers Rest, but fell to the SEJ by 58 points.
