The Melton Toyota Riddell District Football & Netball League, in conjunction with award sponsor Dome Security, are pleased to announce the nominations for the Steve Turner Medal - RDFNL Dome Rising Gun Award for Round 2 of the 2016 RDFNL season.
Steve Turner is a name synonymous with junior football in the north/western metropolitan areas. Steve is a Life Member of the Riddell District FNL who has held many roles within the league, including a stint as Football Operations Manager and on the RDFNL Board. In 2016, Steve once again sits on the RDFNL Board.
Round 2 Nomination - Ben Said - Riddell
Ben is a gifted small forward. With great overhead marking skills and the ability to find the goals, he burst onto the RDFNL scene in round one with a handy effort against Diggers Rest. He earned his round two nomination with a four goal performance against reigning premiers Romsey.
His efforts as a small forward has seen him kick multiple goals on many occasions to complement key forward Brian Ruffell.
Ben's efforts had him rewarded with a place in the RDFNL Interleague team against Alberton. He kicked one goal and created many opportunities for team mates in that game.
Ben crossed to the club from the Sunbury Lions. He played his junior football with the competition, and played Senior football with the Lions also two seasons with the Western Jets playing 13 games. Ben finished the home and away season wth 35 goals from 17 games.
Ben is capable of breaking the game open with his pace and is the perfect addition to the forward line.
To be eligible for the Steve Turner Medal, players must be under 23 years of age, and have played less than 15 senior games prior to the start of the 2016 season. Players must have played junior or Under 18.5 football in the RDFNL, and have made themselves available for selection in RDFNL Interleague Programs. Macedon's Jason Cooke won the award last year.
