Manning Valley Mustangs are going from strength to strength in the Under 11 competition and have now racked up three wins in a row! This is a fantastic effort for a first year club with a team full of first year players. This time out the Mustangs won the second Battle of the Valleys, claiming a 31 point win over the Macleay Valley Eagles. The Mustangs were dominant in the first quarter and opened a 5 goal lead. From here on in the Macleay Valley Eagles found their form and the match was a very even contest with neither side able to gain a scoring advantage.
Northern Beaches Blues are also having a very successful season in their first year back in the Under 11 competition, claiming their third win of the season with victory over the third placed Bellingen Bulldogs. In the closest match of the round, only three points separated the two teams at the final siren. Northern Beaches were never headed and just managed to hold off a fast finishing Bulldogs team who stormed home in the last quarter.
In the other Under 11 match of the round, Port Macquarie Magpies extended their unbeaten streak to 10 matches with a strong win over the plucky Camden Haven Bombers. Whilst the Bombers are yet to win a match this season they keep showing up every week and having a red hot go and are an absolute credit to their club. Port meanwhile are firming as Premiership favourites and are creating a gap to the rest of the teams.
In the Under 13 competition, Sawtell Toormina Saints and Port Macquarie Magpies reinforced their positions at the top of the ladder with impressive wins on the road. Sawtell were too strong for Macleay Valley Eagles at South Kempsey Oval, whilst Port overcame the long road trip to beat Coffs Breakers at Fitzroy Oval. Breakers and the Bellingen Bulldogs are in a tight tussle for third spot, but both have their work cut out if they want to close the gap to the top two.
In Under 15.5 action, the top of the ladder contest between Coffs Breakers and Port Magpies resulted in a 69 point win to the Breakers. The win was set up with a big second quarter effort where Breakers kicked 5 goals to 0 and they now sit comfortably on top of the ladder with a break to Port.
Grafton Tigers continued their push to play Finals footy with an important win over Camden Haven Bombers. The match was close in the first quarter but the Bombers struggled to score in the second then ran out of steam in the second half to see the Tigers record a 90 point win that sees them leapfrog over Sawtell Saints into third place on the ladder. Despite dropping down a place, Sawtell maintained their winning form with a 55 point win against Macleay Valley Eagles. There was a lot to play for in this match as these two teams are currently placed fourth and fifth so the win for Sawtell goes some way towards ensuring they secure a place in the Finals series.
