Pacific Islands Athletes in Athens

The following athletes have qualified in their own right to participate in Athens:

Elina Nasaudrodro, FIJ - Women's Judo
Sisilia Nasiga, FIJ - Women's Judo
Robert Elder, FIJ - Archery
Ivy Shaw, FIJ, - Weightlifting
Yukio Peter, NRU - Weightlifting
Itte Detenamo, NRU - Weightlifting
Ryan Pini, PNG - Swimming
Dika Toua, PNG - Weightlifting
Douglas Hawke, TGA - Boxing
Uati Mapusoa, SAM - Weightlifting
2 Wrestlers, John Tarkong Jr. (PLW) and Geoff Cobb (GUM) have received invitations from FILA, Sifa Taumoepeau (TGA) has received an invitation from FITA, Glenn Kable (FIJ) has received an invitation from ISSF and Akapei Latu (TGA) has received an invitation from IJF.

Invitations have been issued by the IWF to Reanna Solomon (Women 75+kg) NRU, Sam Pera (105kg) COK, Eleei Ilalio (105kg) ASA and Meameaa Thomas (85kg) KIR

NOC entries in Athletics and Swimming through the universality provisions of the Olympic Charter will be finalised in the next few weeks.

Overall the Island NOCs are looking at entering 30 male and 21 female athletes in the Games. This exceeds Sydney 2000 representation where 30 male and 20 female athletes were entered. However the number of athletes meeting IF qualifying standards is up on Sydney figures: 14 compared to 10.
