Helensburgh Tigers celebrate Coal League premiership in style

For the Helensburgh Tigers, the 2015 Coal League first grade Premiers, Mad Monday was an opportunity to revel in their victory after 22 long years.
Tiger’s Football Manager Colin Doran said he waved goodbye to a motley crew of cavemen, teletubbies, superheroes and more heading to Sydney from the club’s grounds at 10:30am.
‘‘There was about 50 of them, all dressed up for Mad Monday, we’ve got a bit of everything,’’ Mr Doran said.
‘‘The one thing about Helensburgh is they celebrate well.’’
But it isn't all partying, there are already thoughts turned to the next season.
‘‘The easy bit is winning it, but the hard bit is not letting anyone take it back off us. They want to defend it and we’ve got momentum,’’ Mr Doran said.
For Christine Keep’s eight year old grandson, Luke Jones, the premiership game win was particularly special.
‘‘My grandson was involved in running out with the A grade Tigers, they held hands, ran out and stood with them as they sang the national anthem,’’ Ms Keep said.
‘‘He plays for the Helensburgh Tigers and at half time, they played a little game. He was so excited.’’
