Greg, who hails from Allora, made is Queensland "Reds" debut in the side's first trial of the 2005 season.
A former Wattles junior, Greg Holmes toured Scotland in 2004 with the Australian Under 21 Rugby Union team competing in the International Rugby Board Under 21 World Cup. The Wallabies finished fourth in the competition behind winners New Zealand, then Ireland & South Africa. Other nations competing included England, Argentina, Wales, France, Italy, Russia & host nation Scotland. During the World Cup Australia defeated France 25 - 24, Tonga 64 - 0 & Argentina 41 - 3 before going down to Ireland 13 - 26 and South Africa 44 - 10.
Greg, a tight head prop who stands 183 cm and weighs in at 110 kg, has the honour of representing Queensland in three different sports - rugby league (Under 14), rugby union & athletics. As an outstanding rugby union prospect he has represented his State annually since he was aged 16 at Toowoomba's Downlands College. He has also represented Australia, ironically in Scotland at the World Junior Athletics Championships, in athletics where he excelled in discus, hammer, & shot put events. His rugby league maroon jersey was won in 1997 as a member of the South West "Mustangs" Under 14 team at the State Championships in Brisbane. Greg played junior rugby league for Wattles from Under 8 to Under 17 grades.
He plays for the Sunnybank Club in the Brisbane Rugby Union competition.
