Pacific 3X3 NBDO Workshop in Suva Fiji 2015

Without the assistance and support from FIBA Oceania we pacific region never exist to help basketball develop. The main purpose of the workshop was for 3x3 concept and other active steps for coaches to run coaching clinics in their country. 3x3 is a quick tool in which FIBA Oceania tried to develop and drive within different countries to help increase the participation in any age groups. The expert coach from Switchzland Nicolas Widmer who has been invited to deliver the 7 days 3x3 concept workshop in Suva Fiji. The expectation of the course is to enable all participant to deliver the same what they captured from the workshop and share with their basketball in the country.

There were 15 participants from different countries attended the workshop and together with two officer from FIBA Oceania and coach from Switzland (Nicolas). These are from Guam NBDO, Vanuatu NBDO, Cook Islands NBDO, Yap NBDO, Solomons NBDO and H4H Coordinator, Kiribati NBDO and H4H Coordinator, Fiji NBDO and 4 H4H Coaches. According to the workshop program, morning session in classroom 3x3 concept and the rest of the day for coaching clinics in schools. As NBDO and coaches were very fortunate to share and learn new things especially for 3x3 and coaching styles.

The most effectivie and interesting part of the workshop was that setting up a goal in which some of us didn't aware of creating a FIBA endorse 3X3 tournament before leaving Fiji. But while setting up that, the 5 day workshop is not just for the workshop itself but it was also for the preparation ahead the 3x3 tournament. And for us Kiribati we were very fortunate to learned new skill the way in creating a short and quick tournament just in 5 days. The tournament just created for one day, inviting different age groups allowed to all Basketball Fiji players from associations in Raiwaqa to come play and have fun.

But before the tournament all staff or participants from the workshop were creating a one day 3x3 tournament competing in five teams which is also part of the pre-game preparation prior the main event.  As of now BF just completed the first FIBA endorsed 3x3 tournament and this was can assist them to get the higher ranking for players and together for the country (Fiji). If Fiji run another 3x3 tournament they will be eligible to attend regional event in future. This is what NBDO Iotia and Tek tried to share with KBF for the great opportunities in 3x3 games.

On behalf of the Kiribati Basketball Federation I would sincerely give our appreciation and thankful to FIBA Oceania for the most effective, productive and essiential workshop for us and together with our brothers and sister out there!!..Thank you Annie La Fleur, Catherine, Nicolas and Basketball Fiji assisting in the program while we were all in Fiji.
