1st Quarter Report

INTRODUCTION

The Solomon Island Basketball Federation has met several times early this year to review their plan of action, which they had put together when they vote in to office last year. The first and the foremost important issue that they are currently working on is the 2003 HBL competition which was not completed last year because of slackness of some HBL administration which shows most of them pulled out or withdrawn from the committee, which has really effect the development program of basketball in the country.

The SI Federation had decided in one of their meeting that they would conduct the HBL competition this year, until such time they identified good people to conduct and administer HBL competition.

The federation is also working on other development program in identifying suitable place in the communities in and around Honiara to construct outdoor basketball court. Where communities will have access to it and also it will further develop and spread the game in other part of the city

TULAGI TOUR

As part of the Solomon Island Basketball Federation long term development plan in the Provinces, the NBDO had tour Tulagi on a request by the Central Province sport coordinator, purposely to inspect the existing basketball foundation court which was funded by one of the NGOs few years back, but was not completed because the fund allocated for the project was misused by certain people who was responsible in the project. A lot of people in Tulagi had shown interest in playing basketball, but lack of proper facility. The NBDO had worked with the Tulagi sport committee, which looked after all sporting activities, is working on drafting a basketball project to submit to any possible Aid donors for funding. The Central Province will send a team of Men's & Women's to take part in the upcoming Solomon Games basketball tournament, which set down for June/July 2004.
