I had been to Makira Ulawa province last month (May) to prepare the site for the Solomon Games basketball tournament especially in erecting the boards, rings and painting of lines, ahead of the tournament. It was a very suitable and standard out door basketball court. While in Makira I was able to conduct basic courses on coaching, referees, bench and tournament administration, 20 enthusiastic participants both male and female had joined the courses and the feed back was really satisfied. The intention of the courses was basically to assist them with some knowledge especially on administration to prepare them for the up coming Solomon Games basketball tournament. We had elected a local organizing committee to assist Ryan Burns and Brian Pongotapu to conduct the Solomon Games basketball tournament.
Plans are underway to organize their basketball league at the end of the Solomon Games, and with the committee elected they will take the responsibility as the Makira Ulawa provincial basketball committee to look after the administration of basketball. With the experience that will get from the game will really assist them.

Basketball is one of the compulsory sport in the Solomon Games, it is one of the main entertaining and high light sport of the national events. Basketball is once again featured as one of the most high lighted sport in this years Solomon Games in Makira Ulawa province. 8 basketball teams representing their provinces competed in the basketball competition at the Solomon Games in Makira Ulawa province, Honiara, Makira, Malaita, Renbel, Guadalcanal, Temotu, and Western provinces in the mens and womens category. Ryan Burns (AYAD) has been the Games Commissioner and Mr. Brian Pongotapu was the head of referees of the competition, the SIBF had also sent three (3) referees and assist in the tournament Mr. Dori Tuhaika, Nisha Pongi and Nicola Pongi.
