CLASH AGAIN !
Today we planned to hold the first of two WAD Meetings, this one for those born in 1992 and 1993. Unfortunately, as has happened before, a Local Government Organisation arrived to have their Opening Ceremony for a multi-sports competition. Not being too pushed for time today, we compromised for the loss of half-an-hour. But this soon became an hour and more as they had to have a short game of elderly football !
FIELD FIRST.
So as not to delay our programme too much, we decided to get on with the Shot and Long Jump. This was quite well-timed, because the two field events finished soon after the LGO ceremony had marched off. Then we could proceed with the track programme and presentations.
THEN TO COCA-COLA !
Having completed the well-supported presentations of T-shirts, posters, certificates, and pins from IAAF, we retired to a local restaurant to welcome our new Committee members Arobati and Kaeka. Lo and behold ! As we walked in, Fiji One was relaying the 4 x 400m. Relays from the huge Coca-Cola Games in Fiji, just to show us how far we have yet to go !
RESULTS SUMMARY.
Please consult the attachment for a Summary of Results. Overall, although more than 100 athletes were registered, 69 actually competed, 40 boys and 29 girls. These represented 8 schools from this capital island of South Tarawa. Some time in the future we might try to get the nearer "outer islands" to run their own competitions as well.
