TRIALS 7 (July 2009)

INTER-SCHOOL IS IMMINENT !

As most of our athletes are still of school age, the pull of the school team was greater than any wish for KAA competition, in most cases.   Having sorted out their FINAL SELECTIONS (yesterday was the deadline for Entries), school teams were concentrating on building up "Team Spirit", "Mutual Support", and some Relay trials !

Thus it was all quite noisy !

For the Inter-School, eleven teams have declared.   (One more may yet join.)   There will be a Track Workshop at the Stadium on Monday (for Track officials), and a similar Field officials' Workshop on Weds. July 01.

We have asked for an up-grading and compacting of the track on July 02 and 03.   Then the track will be closed until competition.   We intend to do the final track marking (six lanes, etc.) on Monday, July 06.

TODAY'S COMPETITION.

Students from two of the teams, Moroni and BTC, took advantage of some throwing practice.   They should be generally pleased with their attempts today.   Particularly Raobu, Kakoroa and Lizzy are finding some consistency in Discus, and Teaeki (Jack), Otatiri,  and Bekina in the Shot.

Veteran (at 23 years old) Beteru tried to push his relatively unfit body over 10 hurdles.   He holds the NR for 110m. but today tried 100m. with Ladies' spacing but correct height.   He was obviously struggling, so we dropped the hurdles down one hole.   He lacked the necessary speed to maintain any rhythm, mostly doing 5 strides.   So his time was not startling !   Nevertheless it was another outing.

Their results were:-
