Announced in Parliament !!

Parliament House
Plan view of Parliament

When the results (and a few comments) had been put together yesterday morning, they were distributed around some of the Committee (two were just returning from the CECS Level 2 Course in Brisbane), the main newspapers, and the Ministry of Internal and Social Affairs, Youth and Sport (MISA).   While delivering to one of the papers, it seemed a good idea to inform the Minister of MISA who by then was at the House of Assembly for the Budget Debate.

It seems that he found time during or after the Debate to make the basic announcement about the triumphant return of the six athletes.   Amazingly (and historically) the news was greeted with a round of applause from the assembled MPs !!!   Thus the athletes' achievement was publicly acknowledged, since the Parliamentary sessions are broadcast on the radio !!

The initial report in one newspaper had been on Tuesday, extracted from the stories on this web-site !!   More details were given on the local radio news today, giving credit to each athlete by name !

It is to be hoped that the results will be filed and remembered as and when we apply for funding, e.g. for the South Pacific Mini Games in Rarotonga in 2009 !   By then we hope to take a full team to the Cook Islands and show where we rank in most of Oceania !
