Kaitinano the best on Day 3.

AFTERNOON  STAR !

We thought the Shot would be a weak event for Kaitinano Mwemweata, but her third putt went out to 8.97m. for a big PB and third place in that event.    This meant good points.   Then she ran strongly to finish 2nd. in the 200m., the final Heptathlon event of the day.   This was familiar territory and she reduced her NR from 27.7 to 27.24 secs.   Thus at the end of the day, she is firmly in fifth place, only 16 points behind 4th.   It would seem that, barring an accident to one of the current leaders, a medal is out of reach.   Whatever the outcome, she has set a challenging standard for the future.

At the end of Day 1, these were the points:-

1.  2717     2. 2693     3. 2382     4. 2104     5. Kaitinano 2088     6. 2038

FIVE  NATIONAL  RECORDS so far !

As the "possibility of setting a National Record" is one of our criteria for team selection, we nevertheless hoped for these improved standards rather than expected them !

In spite of that, we had dared to hope for a historic run from Taanini Teekia (M800m. NR) in the M1500m. Final this afternoon.   He was slightly ahead of schedule after 300m. (48) and 700m. (1-59).   Then the legs went and the body drooped and he finished in 12th. (out of 14) in a PB of 4-44.45.   Behind him, Kaboka ran as if after a 10,000m. warm-up (which he did yesterday !) and placed 13th. in 5-02.00.

Finally Buraieta Yeeting, even given plenty of time, could not sort out his MLJ approach run until his third attempt.   He managed 6.18m. which was reasonable for him, but behind what he would have anticipated.   Maybe he has learned lessons for the MTJ later ?   He has other talents (e.g. a good voice) which he has also been using !
