MAY TRIALS - some steps forward !

100m. - from a distance !

PREPARATION TIME !

For several of the athletes this Trials assisted their competition preparation in a precise way.   E.g. Kaitinano in the Javelin (one of her weak events for the Heptathlon) improved her season's best (SB) by nearly 7m. !!   Those who are inexperienced in using block starts had another opportunity today.   Takakia, for whom the Javelin was not his best event, again improved his SB and was listed in the rankings.

NEW FACES IN HURDLES.

A short hurdles race (60m.) with low obstacles attracted several boys to "have a try".   Beteru, using slightly low hurdles, clocked 9.7  to win the 'A' race.   Itinnaibo (Tim) won the 'B' race in 10.6.   We could not tempt any girls to try !

SOME STARS SHONE !

In the 100m., Mariuti just beat Tanroo (11.7 each).   Mira clocked a respectable 1-13.6 to win the Girls' 400m.   Tearoba again proved his superiority in the Boys' 400m., winning in 55.9.   Itinnaibo (56.8) and Andrew (56.8) had a tight race behind him.   Banrenga raced steadily to a 6-19.1 in the W1500.   Ioritana again went over 6m. in the MLJ with 6.07m.

JAVELIN IMPROVEMENTS.

Just to show what can happen when a little practice and coaching takes place, and to prove that we ought to do Javelin more often, Takakia went over 40m. twice, his best being 43.39m.   Taake achieved a PB of 39.59m.   And Kaitinano went from 17.36 last Saturday to 24.20m. today !

SHOT RESULTS.   (To be reported.)

THANKS.

As usual, thanks to Eneree, Karakoa, and Kaitinano (from the Committee), and Eria and Kireua, plus several senior athletes for their assistance as officials.   And thank God for a dry morning with a light breeze !   And it was good that the footballers actually co-operated.   Amd there was much laughter (in between the moments of great concentration !) around the Finish line !
