The KAA in USA for the first time !

KAA in America.

The staging of the IAAF World Junior Championships has given KAA the chance to send a male sprinter to compete on USA soil for the first time.     The male sprinter selected to go was Tioti (George) Batuao     He travelled to Australia (Gold Coast) and linked up with the rest of the Oceania (Islands) team.    As with all such trips, it involved his personal attendance at the American Embassy in Suvs, Fiji, for the obtaining of a US Visitor's visa (@ US$ 160 !)

In the M 100m. event, on Tuesday July 22,,  there were 50 competitors in 7 Heats.    He ran in Heat 5 and placed 7th. of the seven runners.   His reaction time (to the gun) was quite fast at 0.165 sec.   His time was 11.90.   (Wind + 1.1)    In the same event there were also athletes from FSM, Marshall Islands, American Samoa, and Tonga.   Out of the five Oceania athletes Tioti placed 3rd.

It is to be hoped that his participation was a great experioence and inspires him to continue to improve.
