Hansen Sails in Princesa Sofia Regatta, Spain

GSC sailor Kurt Hansen has set sails over in Palma De Mallorca, Spain, where he is currently right in business competing against the world’s strongest 49er teams. Hansen is competing in the 49 Trofeo S.A.R Princesa Sofia regatta, where nearly 900 boats from 12 different classes are competing.

In the Men’s Olympic 49er class, Hansen and fellow crewmate Harry Morton from Lake Macquarie are in 43rd position, a strong result in the 91 boat fleet. The team started the regatta out strongly, posting a 19, 3 and 4 on the 1st day of racing. The ‘Palmar’ regatta is a warm-up event to the next sailing world-cup coming up in Hyers, France in two weeks’ time. It is also a good way for sailors to “check in” with the top end of competition around the world. The ‘Palmar’ regatta runs from 30th March-7th April with medal races scheduled on the last day of racing.

Hansen recently posted “Massive month of 49er sailing ahead for us starting in Palma, followed by Sailing Worldcup in Hyers”. We wish Kurt and Harry all the best for the endeavours and will be closely watching from all the way back at GSC. Goodluck Kurt!
