Youth Sailing Acadamy Sailors Compete In Multiple Events

This week selected members of Gosford’s Youth Sailing Academy took part in the Youth Training ‘Talented Youth Search’ Sailing Program held out of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) from the 10th-13th April 2017. The 5 sailors who were involved were part of a select group identified by GSC as having talent and potential to enhance their sailing knowledge and skills. The selected youth sailors included Mark Murray, Jessica Rivers, Britney Bedding, Sam Grilik and Nele Schulz. Congratulations all!

The CYCA course follows the 9 week youth sailing program conducted out of Gosford Sailing Club in the magic 25 sailing boats. This aimed and worked on improving sailor’s boat handling skills in the larger boats whilst increasing the participant’s knowledge of sailing with both a symmetrical and a-symmetrical spinnaker. It also included introducing and developing match racing techniques.
You could say these youth sailors have got a busy month ahead, spending most of their school holiday time out on the water. Following the CYCA program, many of these 5 sailors along with other sailors from Gosford sailing club will compete in the NSW NS14 State Championships from 14th-17th April. After this they will then join nearly 150 high school sailors to compete in the annual Combined High Schools Event, to be held out of Belmont 16ft Sailing Club from 18th-22nd April. We wish all GSC representatives the best of luck and congratulate them on their efforts so far.

We look forward to hearing more from our youth sailors and wish them the best in their upcoming events. Check out this story on Sail world which sums up the upcoming Combined High Schools Regatta: http://www.sail-world.com/Australia/Zhik-Combined-High-Schools-Championships-gains-momentum/152899
