New Youth Acadamy Course At GSC

Last Thursday night Gosford Sailing Club introduced its exciting new Youth Academy sailing course. The program has recently been introduced as a way to bring together youth sailors of varying skill level at our club, in the effort to develop hands on and theoretical skills, whilst having a great time out on the water! The program comprises a total of 9 on-water sessions in the club’s Magic 25 sailing boats, as well as some theory sessions. Whilst undertaking the 9 week program sailors will have the opportunity to improve boat handling skills in the larger boats, using both a-symmetrical and symmetrical spinnakers as well as increasing their knowledge when looking at the tactical side of sailing. This will be highly beneficial when transferring this knowledge to their everyday racing in the smaller dinghy style boats. We will also introduce match racing techniques, which is a new way to look at sailing when comparing to fleet racing. So far the sailors have learnt a lot, with their first theory session taking place before the fun out on the water began last Thursday evening. There are a total of 8 youth sailors involved in this course this year. We look forward to developing the skills of these sailors at GSC, and watching them having a great time out on the water each week.
