Gusty Winds, Salty Wetsuits And One Fantastic Night
Last weekend GSC sailors had a challenging day out on the water, with extremely shifty SW breezes. After initial postponement due to strong winds, sailors had the opportunity to improve their boat handling skills by racing amongst inconsistent gusts, with directions varying from the South to South West. Although the breeze was not in their favour, the racing concluded with plenty of smiles and numerous stories of how they battled the breeze. To top it off, a beautiful sunset greeted the baffled sailors ashore.
Later on in the night, a glorious evening continued upstairs in the club, as club members and patrons came together at the Inaugural Black Tie Ball event. The event was a tremendous success, raising money towards replacing the ageing Elsie Ross Start Boat. Sailors stripped their salty wetsuits aside, dressing up to the ‘smart-casual’ themed event. The Ball saw many sailors get their ‘boogie’ on with live entertainment following their 2 course meal. Gosford Sailing Club would like to say a huge thankyou to all members who attended! We hope you all had a fabulous time, we know we did!
GSC was also lucky enough to host the 2016 MG14 State Championship last weekend. Despite the shifty breeze which made it very difficult for the race committee to set a course, sailors had a fantastic regatta. GSC sailors in particular came in at the top of the fleet, placing 2nd and 3rd overall. Congratulations all sailors involved and a very special thankyou to the race committee and volunteer's for persisting to do their very best despite the breeze.
