Bill Bowry Memorial Regatta: Blown Out
Last weekend's Bill Bowry Regatta season opener was blown out with keen sailors being advised at briefing that safety was the better part of valour as the westery gusted to 30 knots at times.
Meanwhile an enjoyable lunch was organised in the sailors bar downstairs on Saturday, with life members and volunteers being special guests and many other sailors enjoying a good chin wag and opportunity to plot tactics for the season ahead.
New club life member John McDougall showed some great film footage of the racing in his Melges 32 Mac 2 during the Hamilton Island regatta, including a Gopro look at what happened when they put her in the drink at high speed.
Many willing members rolled up their sleeves to help move the heavy timber tables from the upstairs outdoor area to a storage container downstairs so that refurbishment work could be done upstairs during the week. Hopefully the breeze will be pitch-perfect this coming weekend!
