Five Star LA Show

Northern Rangers consolidated fifth place in the Ps4 NPL Standings, moving back ahead of cross town rivals Launceston City with a comfortably win against the travelling Kingborough Lions. The win was built off the back of a superb performance from Nick Lanau-Atkinson, who scored four and set up a fifth in his sides 5-2 victory.

The Lions were under strength as the brick wall that is Sheku Kamara was away for a multi cultural football tournament on the mainland. He has so often proved the difference between a close game and a hammering and without him the Lions were up against it.

It took all of three minutes for the Nick Lanau-Atkinson show to start, as the Rangers captain drove at the Lions back four with relative ease where he finished low into the bottom left-hand corner.

The Lions showed a bit of a ticker and got themselves back in the game in the 20th minute through a well taken Danny Cowen penalty. The spot kick was awarded after Monticchio scythed down Belstead in the box.

The Lions Captain was leading from the front as per usual, if all of his team mates showed the same desire and attitude they would be a much tougher side to face.

But Northern Rangers soon restored their lead through Canadian import Kwin Kensley, he latched on to a pass from Lanau-Atkinson and finished expertly. Kensley loves a celebration and this time was no different as he once again performed his eye catching acrobatic flip routine.

Both sides went into half time with it all to play for, the Rangers had dominated proceedings but Kingborough lions have fire power up front and are a tricky side to defend against when Cowen is in the mood.

It was Rangers who came out of the sheds the sharper though and Thannhauser picked out Nick LA who raced in on goal and made it 3-1 shortly after the restart.

Nick LA then completed his hat-trick with a trade mark free kick, his superb finish leaving the Kingborough goalkeeper with no chance as the wall fell apart.

The Lions were working hard and trying to make chances, their hard work paid off as Cooper who with a nice turn and swing shot was able to beat Whatman down to his right-hand side.

Man of the Match Nick Lanau-Atkinson then added his fourth in the 85th minute, sprinting to the near post for a tap in at close range to end the game 5-2 Rangers.
