ZEBRAS EXPLOIT CHINKS IN KNIGHTS ARMOUR

The Hobart JEEP Zebras have cemented their spot at the top of the PS4 Victory League ladder with a 6-0 win over the Glenorchy Knights in a top of the table clash at KGV on Friday night.

Zebras controlled much of the first half, with Knights struggling to sustain possession. Kurt Engels opened the scoring for Zebras after 11 minutes with a header from a corner, and Adam McKeown made it 2-0 with a delicate chip from 10 yards out. Engels added another before half time, and his side went into the break with a comfortable 3-0 lead.

The Glenorchy Knights began to work their way into the match in the second half, creating opportunities of their own. However Zebras found another gear midway through the second half but missed multiple chances to add to the score sheet. Alex Woodham pulled off two top class saves to deny Kurt Engels his hat trick and deny Zebras a fourth.

Adam McKeown scored three goals in the last 10 minutes to give himself four goals and his team a 6-0 victory. McKeown and Engels had plenty of goal scoring opportunities and they will want to convert these as the season progresses if Zebras are to claim the title.

Zebras backline was solid, and Jayden Hey was a key link between defence and attack, setting up a couple of goals himself. For Glenorchy, Vincent Kamano battled hard up front and proved to be quite a hand full.

Glenorchy Knights coach Mark Broadbent was mindful his young side had just played the current top team in the PS4 Victory League.

“First half, few errors, cost us the three goal deficit at half time,” said Broadbent.

“The scoreline says six nil, six nil it is, but for me it wasn’t a six nil game the way it was played,” said Broadbent.

“Don’t take anything away from Zebras, they are clinical, they are good. It’s going to take a good side to knock them off,” said Broadbent.

Hobart JEEP Zebras coach Chris Hey was frustrated with the number of chances they created but failed to capatalise on.

“My way of thinking it could’ve been double figures, but it wasn’t and we’ll take the six and move on,” said Hey.

“I thought we were a lot more disciplined tonight throughout the game, especially in our back four. Our back four so far this year has been tremendous, back five I should say with Graham in our defensive game,” said Hey.

“We held them out, a clean sheet tonight which to us is really, really important, and we move forward to next week,” said Hey.

The win keeps Zebras atop the PS4 Victory League ladder with 10 out of a possible 12 points.
