Mount Gambier RL 9’s Cup Wrap-up Round 4
Naracoorte Jets 42 defeated Blue Lake Knights 0 in a seemingly one-sided affair that was still a quality game of rugby league. Missing four of their experienced players due to injury, the Knights put up a good fight against top of the table Jets. In a very attacking game, the Jets players shared the scoring with multiple try-scorers in Tui Makoare and Henry Baldwin. The inexperienced Knights looked to have developed well as a team, but were unable to get on the scoreboard and are out of the Finals race. Best on ground was Jets Tony McCarthy who scored one try. Other standout players were Jets Kyme Lewis with one try and one conversion, and Knights Donovan Ward.
Eastern Dragons 24 defeated Gambier Warriors 4 in another good contest. The Dragons came out attacking scoring three tries and one conversion in the opening half whilst keeping the Warriors scoreless. The Warriors fought back in the second half with Corrie Kennedy getting his side on the scoreboard. But the Dragons proved too strong and scored a further two tries to run out 20 point winners. Best on ground was Dragons Dylan Gull who scored three tries. Other standout players were Warriors Corrie Kennedy who scored one try and Dragons Mitchell June who scored one try and two conversions.
