Mount Gambier RL 9’s Cup Wrap-up Round 2

Naracoorte Jets 13 defeated Gambier Warriors 6 in a very close contest. An early field goal by Jets Steve Anderson caught everyone off guard, which was shortly followed by a try to the Jets. Warriors fought back with Corey Kennedy scoring his sides only try and conversion for the match. The second half saw a more competitive half of footy until an injury to Warriors Michael Lawson, saw the Jets seal the win with another try. Best on ground was Jets Jason Cordell who scored on try. Other standout players were Warriors Corey Kennedy and the Jets Steve Anderson with two conversions and one field goal.n


Eastern Dragons 36 defeated Blue Lake Knights 16 in another entertaining game of rugby league. The Knights still developing as a team allowed the Dragons to run in three easy tries through the Knights defence. Midway through the first half, an injury to Knights Ben Goodman saw the side gain momentum with Ryan Nickelson scoring the Knights first try for the season. Bryce Strachan followed up with another scoring opportunity for the Knights. However, the Dragons were relentless in their attack with Rordon Walker scoring three successive tries and Mitch June kicking six conversions. Knights persevered with Goodman returning to the field and scoring his side’s third try after muscling through the Dragons defensive line. Best on ground was Rordon Walker who scored three tries. Other standout players were Knights Ben Goodman and Dragons Mitch June.


In Round 3 on Saturday August 16th at East Gambier Football Club, Blue Lake Knights will play Gambier Warriors at 5pm and Naracoorte Jets will play Eastern Dragons at 6.10pm.
