Mount Gambier RL 9’s Cup Wrap-up Round 1

Naracoorte Jets 48 defeated Blue Lake Knights 0 in the opening game of the 9’s Cup. Jets were an attacking force with Kyme Lewis and Tony McCarty scoring two tries apiece in the opening half. Trailing 26-0 at halftime, an inexperienced Knights team missing a few key players, were unable to get on the scoreboard as the Jets scored another four tries before the final siren. Best on ground was Jets Kyme Lewis who scored three tries and played an attacking game. Other standout players were Knights Ben Goodman and Jets Steve Anderson who scored five conversions.


In game two, Eastern Dragons 34 defeated Gambier Warriors 16 in a competitive contest. An 8-manned Warriors played an impressive game with the scores nearly even at halftime. In the second half, Dragons ran away with the match with multiple try scorers in Andrew Stone and Jakob Opie. Best on ground was awarded to Dragons Wayne Shield who played a solid all-round game. Other standout players were Warriors Monty Waren and Dragons Mitch June who scored one try and five conversions.


In Round 2 on Friday August 8th at East Gambier Football Club, Naracoorte Jets will play Gambier Warriors at 6.30pm and Eastern Dragons will play Blue Lake Knights at 7.40pm.
