In swimming’s final day of competition, athletes competed in the pool in their last chance to snatch up medals in the sport.
There were lots of close finishes, along with some very convincing wins. Medals were spread across many teams, with Guam taking home the biggest portion of them.
Marshall Islands’ Troy Kojelang won with a clean victory in his 200 metre butterfly final. In the corresponding women’s 200 metre butterfly, Lorelei Poppe from Guam had little challenge in winning her final.
With just a fraction of a second between Guam’s Jagger Stephens and Christopher Duenas, the end of the men’s 50 metre freestyle proved to be very exciting. The crowd was cheering for both of the Guam athletes, unsure of exactly who won. The final result revealed Stephens beat his team mate to the wall by two hundredths of a second.
It was a very exciting and eventful day of competition to conclude swimming at the 2014 Micro Games.
