Gloomy, as it is the 8th Micronesian Game ceremony took place in Pohnpei, track & field area.
Tremendously, the program provided a warm welcome to the spectators and athletes from all the islands participating in the games.
As excitement filled the air, entertainment kept the crowd cheering as performers performed. Athletes pranced around the track while the crowd gazed.
Conversation was made with a former table tennis player of Pohnpei, Pernis Diopulos, who is training players for the upcoming event.
He stated that his players are set and prepared, well encouraged and well trained. Pernis feels his coaching and knowledge as a past player helps to give his team a sense of bravery and confidence.
He’s surprised that coaches and other players knew him as a former player.
“They used to say ‘see there’s the good player, Pernis’,” said Pernis.
From great players to great men, Tim Ono, former US Special Forces, jumped from a plane to deliver the official flag of the 8thMicronesian Games.
The crowd was cheering as he descended through the sky, looking expectantly for his arrival on the ground.
He landed in the middle of the crowd to a chorus of cheers as the flag for this year’s games was fully unveiled.
For closing, they performed a beautiful song led to a wonderful ending, with great excitement and joy.
While singing about bringing people together there was a feeling that this would be the result of the next 10 days of competition, as friendships would undoubtedly be forged and last long past the closing ceremony.
