Charlestown City Blues will look to bounce back against Weston Workers as they meet in our BARTV match of the round at Lisle Carr Oval.

Both sides come into this contest in indifferent form after losing last weekend and will look to return with a good performance and get some points.

Charlestown City Blues went down 3-1 to Lake Macquarie City last weekend despite a convincing midweek over Adamstown Rosebud a few days before.

Charlestown City Blues will look to put their turbulent start to the season and injuries behind them and find consistency this weekend as they welcome another side struggling for form.

Weston Workers succumb to another defeat last weekend going down 1-0 to South Cardiff at Rockwell Automation Park on Sunday.

The loss was the Bears third in its last four matches and as they have gained just one point from the 12 on offer, after gaining 10 points from its opening four matches in a fantastic start to the season.

The Bears will take confidence from its second half performance against South Cardiff as they came out of the sheds the better side and created enough clear cut chances to take some points, but still failed to find the back of the net.

Just one point separates the sides as Weston Workers slides to fifth and Charlestown City Blues sits just behind them in sixth spot.

The first encounter between these sides finished 2-2 while Charlestown City Blues came out 4-2 winner at Lisle Carr Oval in the second with plenty of goals on offer.

The key to this game will be finishing in front of goal, both are very strong from set pieces and have the ability to get balls in the box; it will probably be a very interesting midfield battle as both sides look to find confidence again in their system of play.

It should be a great game of football between two very competitive sides.

Newcastle Jets Youth v Hamilton Olympic FC
Sat 31 May 2:45PM

Darling Street Oval
#NEWvOLY

Hamilton Olympic looks to extend its unbeaten home run this weekend as it welcomes Newcastle Jets Youth to Darling Street Oval on Saturday.

With just the one loss to its name this season, Hamilton Olympic sits just one point behind their opponents who sit joint top of the table with Edgeworth Eagles.

Newcastle Jets Youth succumb to their second loss of the season going down 2-0 to Lambton Jaffas last weekend and relinquished their three point lead at the top of the table.

Depending on results in other matches, Hamilton Olympic has the chance to either sit on top of the ladder or overtake their opponents after reaching the half way point in the competition this weekend.

Hamilton returns to Darling Street Oval after 1-0 win over Adamstown Rosebud last week, after scoring the opener in just the third minute the home side failed to extend their lead in an end to end second forty five minutes.

Hamilton Olympic comes into this fixture in good form after an impressive 3-1 win over Broadmeadow Magic, followed by a 1-1 draw away to Edgeworth who needed a late equaliser to salvage a point, and then the 1-0 win over Adamstown last week.

Hamilton Olympic recorded convincing 4-1 and 3-0 wins over Newcastle Jets Youth last season but won’t be expecting an easy game this weekend.

The Jets Youth have impressed early in the season and will want to pick themselves up after the loss last week.

The only game being played on Saturday, it is sure to be a great one to watch at Darling Street Oval.

Adamstown Rosebud FC v Edgeworth FC
Sun 1 Jun 2:45PM

Adamstown Oval
#BUDvEFC

Adamstown Rosebud host Edgeworth Eagles this Sunday at Adamstown Oval in search of vital points at home.

Adamstown recorded a crucial win over fellow cellar dwellers Lake Macquarie City to open up a five point gap between them but saw that margin narrow back down to two after Lake’s shocked Charlestown City Blues at home last week.

The home side will take confidence away from their narrow defeat away to Hamilton Olympic last week and will be pleased with the number of opportunities they created.

Competing for the full 90 minutes against a top three side, they know they will need a similar effort this weekend against the top of the table side.

Their opponents bounced back to form last week with a convincing 4-1 win over Broadmeadow Magic last week after going three games without a win.

Despite the apparent slump which included three draws, Edgeworth still remains the only undefeated side in the competition and has conceded just three goals in their opening eight matches.

Edgeworth Coach Gary Wilson said “we build around our defence and at the moment our defence has been very solid and our transition is good, then hopefully we can finish in the final third and when we do all that right, we are very hard to beat.”

His side certainly proved that last week, and with notable wins against Newcastle Jets Youth and Charlestown City Blues.

Adamstown Rosebud will be out to disrupt Edgeworth’s form and stability and cause an upset at home. It will be great to see how it plays out at Adamstown Oval.

Broadmeadow Magic FC v Lake Macquarie City FC
Sun 1 Jun 2:45PM

Magic Park
#MGCvLMC

Broadmeadow Magic chases a much needed win in front of its home crowd as they welcome Lake Macquarie City to Magic Park on Sunday.

Broadmeadow Magic sits just two points in front of their opposition (with a game in hand) and is dangerously low to the bottom of the table after recording just two wins this season.

Lake Macquarie City recorded its first three points of the season last week with a 3-1 win over Charlestown City Blues and will be full of confidence coming into this one.

The result for Lake Macquarie City comes on the back of impressive draws against Newcastle Jets Youth and Edgeworth Eagles and they will be confident of getting something out of the game away from home.

Lake Macquarie City Coach Gary Rowe said last week’s result “was validation that we have been working on the right things” and said his side are coming together nicely and building confidence each week.

Broadmeadow Magic will be disappointed with the 4-1 loss to Edgeworth Eagles after a recording a 3-0 win over Charlestown City Blues the week before and 2-0 midweek cup win which saw them find some old form.

These sides played out a 4-4 draw in their first encounter last season while Broadmeadow Magic won the second 3-0.

It’s going to be a great game between two sides hungry for a win as the home side and premiers look to regain their championship winning form against a side building in confidence.

South Cardiff FC v Lambton Jaffas FC
Sun 1 Jun 2:45PM

Ulinga Oval
#SCGvJAF

South Cardiff welcomes Lambton Jaffas to Ulinga Oval on Sunday with both sides coming off a win in round 8.

The Gunners have been left frustrated with results not going their way after impressive performances but managed to hold on for a 1-0 win over Weston Workers last week despite a number of late chances almost going against them.

They were outplayed in the second half after the replacement of Sean Clerke up front, and were also missing a number of key personnel already from the starting line up.

Despite fielding an under strength side South Cardiff produced a fantastic performance away from home and were very mobile in attack in a flawless performance in the first half and were defensively solid throughout the game.

If they produce the same form this weekend they will be confident of getting a result against last year’s grand finalists.

Lambton Jaffas themselves come into the contest after a confident 2-0 win over Newcastle Jets Youth with second half goals from John Majurovski and Tom Smart confirming the win at home.

Lambton were the better side on the day and Peter McPherson had a stand out performance in the midfield along with Luke Remington who used his pace down the left to good effect in the first half.

On the back of two very good defensive performances from both sides it will be great to see how this match goes with both brimming with confidence coming into the game.

South Cardiff managed to defeat Lambton in both matches last season with a 1-0 and 2-0 wins but know they are up against an in form side at home, it should be a great game.
