Newcastle Jets Youth 2 – 2 Lake Macquarie City FC

Newcastle Jets Youth and Lake Macquarie played out a 2-2 draw at Macquarie Field on Sunday with the home side coming from behind twice.

Beau McDonald opened the scoring for the Newcastle Jets Youth just ten minutes in, to give the visitors an early advantage against the bottom placed side.

Lake Macquarie City equalised through Tom Walker with ten minutes remaining in the first half as both sides went into the sheds with the scores locked at 1-1.

The visitors quickly restored their lead just moments after the half time break through Ben Hay but again Lake Macquarie City came back to level the scores through Sam Walker five minutes later, and that’s how it stayed until the final whistle.

Lake Macquarie City Coach Gary Rowe said “it was good to get a point off the league leaders.”

Rowe said “we’re starting to realise how we want to play, we knew it would take about five weeks for us to start hitting form, we are feeling confident and happy at the moment, still looking for the three points.”

That came after his side’s 0-0 draw against second placed Edgeworth Eagles on Wednesday night in the rescheduled washout fixture with the Rooster taking points off the top two placed sides.

Lake Macquarie City is away to South Cardiff next week while Newcastle Jets Youth has a big match against Weston Workers.

Lambton Jaffas FC 0 – 0 Edgeworth FC

Lambton Jaffas and Edgeworth Eagles played out a goalless draw at Arthur Edden Oval on Saturday with the visitors reduced to ten men with ten minutes remaining.

Both sides had chances to break the deadlock, the home side came close when Alex Palozzi’s shot cannoned off the cross bar from the edge of the area.

Nick Pepper also forced a finger trip save from Lambton goalkeeper Danny Ireland from his one on one opportunity.

Kale Bradbury had a similar chance in front of goal but Edgeworth goalkeeper Jim Fogarty did well to prevent his shot on goal.

Bren Abbott-Hammel also had a similar opportunity down the other end for Edgeworth Eagles.

Hector Mendez was proving a threat for the visitors and he forced a great diving save from Ireland to prevent his free kick from finding the back of the net.

Edgeworth defender Cameron Hughes was shown his second yellow card with less than ten minutes remaining which gave the home side a numerical advantage but was too late to have any impact on the proceedings in the end.

Lambton Coach David Tanchevski said “a draw was probably a fair result; we had some good chances though.”

Lambton Jaffas travel to face Adamstown Rosebud next week but first have a midweek rescheduled fixture against Broadmeadow magic while Edgeworth Eagles host Hamilton Olympic on Sunday.

Hamilton Olympic FC 3 – 1 Broadmeadow Magic FC

Hamilton Olympic defeated a ten man Broadmeadow Magic outfit 3-1 at Darling Street Oval on Sunday to keep the pressure on reigning premiers.

Alex Kantarovski was shown his second yellow card early in the second half leaving the visitors with a big mountain to climb after already being two goals behind.

Broadmeadow Magic started well in the opening fifteen minutes and Scott Petit and Peter Haynes both created good chances within a few minutes, Pettit’s shot bouncing back off the right upright after being played in by Haynes.

It was the home side however who broke the deadlock when Jacob Bailey headed home from a corner on the half hour mark, as Hamilton Olympic provided a continual threat before the half time break.

Despite Broadmeadow Magic coming out strong they were left disappointed after conceding a penalty with a foul on Rhys Cooper after 52 minutes. David Hodgson made no mistake from the penalty spot to extend Hamilton Olympic’s lead to 2-0.

Hodgson was on hand to tap in for his second goal of the game to make the score 3-0 after Chris Bowling parried the initial attempt.

Daniel Casciaroli gave the visitors a glimmer of hope ten minutes later when he scored from 22 yards out with a powerful shot finding the bottom corner.

Things went from bad to worse for the visitors as Kantarovski was shown his second yellow card for a sliding challenge and Broadmeadow was reduced to ten men.

The result gives Hamilton Olympic their third win of the season and keeps them in third in a runaway top four at the moment.

While for Broadmeadow Magic it was their third loss of the season, still with just the one win to their name.

Hamilton Olympic goes on to face Edgeworth Eagles at Jack McLaughlin Oval on Sunday while Broadmeadow Magic will meet Lambton midweek and host Charlestown City Blues on Sunday.

Weston Workers FC 1 – 1 Adamstown Rosebud FC

Weston Workers and Adamstown Rosebud shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Rockwell Automation Park on Sunday.

Both sides cancelled each other out with goals in the first half, then unable to break the deadlock after the break.

Adamstown Rosebud opened the scoring through Abe Wheelhouse early with a nicely taken goal.

But Weston responded well and started to pressure the visitors, Robbie Turnbull equalising for the home side from a corner in the 25th minute.

Adamstown Rosebud Coach Anthony Richards said “it was good to get a point away to Weston, we started well early but they came back well, the second half was a fairly open affair and either side could have won it in the end.”

Adamstown goes on to face Charlestown City Blues in a rescheduled fixture midweek in what Richards labelled as “an extremely difficult game” followed by Lambton Jaffas next Sunday.

Weston Workers return home to face Newcastle Jets Youth in the only scheduled game on Saturday next week.

Charlestown City Blues 4 – 1 South Cardiff

Charlestown City Blues returned to form with a dominant 4-1 win over an under strength South Cardiff side at Lisle Carr Oval on Sunday.

Charlestown City Blues raced to a 4-0 lead before the half hour mark with two goals to marksman Kane Goodchild with the result all but over early on.

South Cardiff was without the likes of Jarryd and Daniel Johnson, and Nick Russell as they found it hard to compete away from home.

The Gunners will return to Ulinga Oval next week where they will face Lake Macquarie City who sits just two points behind them at the bottom of the table.

Charlestown now moves to sixth on the ladder just four points outside the top four with a game in hand.

Charlestown City Blues face Adamstown midweek in a rescheduled washout fixture before facing Broadmeadow Magic on Sunday.
