Big Name Signings for Olympic

Canberra Olympic has recruited five big name signings for the 2015 National Premier Leagues: Capital Football competition as they look to return to the Grand Final winners’ enclosure following on from their success in 2013.

Dual ACT Player of the Year and League Championship winning forward Robbie Cattanach joins from Cooma Tigers, alongside ex-Canberra FC front man Philippe Bernabo-Madrid, Belconnen United midfield dynamo Tom McLachlan, Cooma defender Phil Yarnold and Tuggeranong United utility player Jon Toole as Head Coach Frank Cachia re-shuffles his pack ahead of the 2015 campaign.

Cattanach needs no introduction to followers of the game in Canberra having been crowned best player in the NPL: CF for the past two years. His thirteen goals last season played a pivotal part in the Tigers breaking their 63-year championship drought. An outstanding creative playmaker with an eye for goal, Cattanach is widely regarded as one of the best players Canberra has ever produced.

The former Tigers front-man should help form a formidable partnership with former Canberra FC striker Philippe Bernabo-Madrid. The Australian of Colombian descent, has a lightning turn of pace and was a regular amongst the goals for FC before falling out of favour midway through the 2013 season.

Tom McLachlan meanwhile enjoyed an outstanding season with Belconnen United earning the Valeri Medal as player if the match in the penalty shoot-out Grand Final win over Canberra FC. Earlier in that match he had pulled the Blue Devils level at 1-1 with what was his thirteenth goal of the season. McLachlan showed energy and drive in the middle of the park and a deft touch from a dead-ball scoring some memorable goals along the way.

Defender/midfielder Jon Toole arrives at Canberra Olympic after a successful season at Tuggeranong United for whom he played a major part in both their dramatic Westfield FFA Cup fixtures. Deployed as either a left-sided midfielder or, on occasion, as a left-back, Toole has trickery, pace and sublime ball control and should be a good asset to the O’Connor based outfit. Yarnold meanwhile has been a mainstay of the Tigers back four, was a major part of their League championship success in 2014 and should prove to be a valuable acquisition for Olympic.
