Preview:

Adelaide City and Raiders are set to battle it out at Adelaide City Park in round 13 of the National Premier League South Australia.

Raiders snapped a four game losing streak in Round 12 with a one all draw against third placed Adelaide Blue Eagles, while City are coming off the back of a hard fought extra time win in the quarter-finals of the Westfield FFA Cup.

It has been an up and down start to the season for Raiders, languishing down in tenth position. However, there has been a few bright spots for the side, with Elvis Kamsoba and recently Mamadi Kamara taking out Player of the Month gongs.

Despite winning the fan-voted award, Kamara was modest in his achievement.

“I think I’ve played alright, I just left Croydon and signed with Raiders so I think this is my fifth game; I’ve been playing alright but not as good as I was because I’m new to the club, but I need to step up more.”

Kamara said the side would go into this weeks contest full of confidence after their one all draw with Blue Eagles and hopeful that they can pull themselves up to a higher position on the ladder.

“I think we deserved to win that game, we had more possession than Blue Eagles, and we were working as a team; we’ve got a great bunch of lads here.

“At the moment we have a few injuries, and a few of them should be coming back soon which is good for us. But we have to step up more because we don’t deserve to be sitting near the bottom.

After having the weekend off due to the Cup round, Kamara said the side was well prepared heading in to the contest.

“We’ve been training very hard this week, so we’re very prepared to face City. We’ve been working on our defence and hitting on the counter attack, but we need to just work harder in order to get off the bottom. “

Adelaide City saw their five game unbeaten run come to an end with a 3-2 loss to form side West Torrens Birkalla, but are coming off the back of a hard fought win against Para Hills in the Cup.

City’s Michael Acton said the side should have finished the game off in the first half, but their dominance gives them something to build on heading into this week.

“We weren’t the best, we could have played a lot better. We had more of the ball and did have a few opportunities in the first half that we could have put away, and we probably would have won from there.

“We always want to do better and we are a lot better than how we played against Para Hills; once we get back to basics, which we need to do, keep the ball and wait for the opportunity, we have the players to finish off the chances.”

Acton said the side needed to be patient in order to come away with the win, and pointed to City’s five game unbeaten run as testament to this.

“When we rush things we don’t look too good, but if you look at the results we had in that five game run we were very patient, kept the ball and out played most of our opponents.

“That’s what we need to keep doing and hopefully we can get back to that this week. Raiders are always a good team to play against, they always battle against us as well, but if we are on our game I think we’ll get the result.”
