Adelaide City will look to continue their perfect start to the season on Sunday as they come up against new boys Adelaide Olympic in Round 3 of the PlayStation 4 National Premier League South Australia.

City have taken maximum points from the opening two rounds of the 2016 season, a start the Oakden club are not accustom to, according to midfielder Alex Sunasky.

“Over the last few years we haven’t got off to good starts, usually we play catch up,” he said.

“But obviously it’s only two matches in and there’s a long way to go so we need to keep up with where we have set our standards.”

The black and whites pulled off a major scalp last week as they downed reigning Champions West Adelaide thanks to a Lewis Farquhar strike late in the game.

Sunasky believed that it was a result which City deserved, filling them with confidence over the coming weeks.

“I think we deserved the result.

“We set up our shape well, it was in tough conditions as well in regards to the heat but I think we did deserve it.

“It is a positive knowing that if we do come prepared we can beat anyone on any given day.”

The midfielder did say that the side needed to work on putting away their chances earlier in the game after it took until the 84^th minute last week for City to break the deadlock.

“We do create plenty of chances in most games but we haven’t been taking them.

“Although it came late on, we did deserve the result last weekend and hopefully we can score earlier on this week and take it from there.”

Olympic have had a tough start to life in the NPL, conceding 4 goals in both of the clubs first two games.

Midfielder Jairus Wyten said that the side remained positive as the results of the first two rounds were to be expected, given that they have come up against both of last year’s Grand Finalists in West Adelaide and Adelaide Blue Eagles.

“We are still very positive; they were the top 2 teams last year so now we know the benchmark.

“A lot of the team has played in the NPL before, but for those that haven’t it is a big step up and will take a bit of getting use to.

“But they definitely have the ability.”

Wyten said that he could see improvement in some areas of the pitch compared to Round 1, and would try to build on that this week against City.

“We could see improvement in some areas, however there is still areas that need improving which have been addressed this week.

“Adelaide City have always been a strong team and we know that they will fight hard right to the end.

“We know a lot of their strengths and weaknesses so we will be looking to exploit them this week.”

Sunasky said that City would be weary of the newly promoted side, and would by no means underestimate their capabilities.

“They’ll be looking to get their first three points of the season, newly promoted teams always find it tough when they first go up but it’s not going to be an easy go by any stretch of the imagination.

“Each team in the League is difficult, especially in an away game so were expecting them to try and rebound from their first two results.”
