Knights fall to fourth in Sharks slip

By David Manuca

A double from forward Nicholas Krousoratis has guided Port Melbourne Sharks to a 2-0 win away to Melbourne Knights on Sunday afternoon.

The Port forward scored both goals after the half-time break in what was a dour affair at Knights Stadium in the final home & away game of the season.

Port started the better of the two sides and had two good chances to open the scoring inside the first six minutes of the game.

First an Adrian Zahra cross found Ryan Opperman at the back-post but his shot went off target, before Zahra set up Alan Mulcahy who blasted a volley way over the bar.

Zahra was looking very lively early on and almost scored with a shot from outside the box but Knights goalkeeper Christopher May pulled off a smart save.

James McGarry’s long-range shot on the half-hour mark was Knight’s best chance of the opening stages, with Andrijasevic then blasting a shot over.

Knights should have taken the lead before the half-time whistle but somehow could not convert as the ball bounced around in the six-yard box from a corner.

The missed opportunity came to haunt them five minutes into the second-half when Krousoratis put the ball past May for the opening goal.

Another shot from Krousoratis fifteen minutes later was brilliantly denied by May, but the forward got his second on 74 minutes to truly put the game to rest.

Christopher Talajic missed a close-range header late on, summing up Knights poor afternoon.
