Portillo, Turer braces help Brunswick to win over Nuna

By MATTHEW McNAMARA

Two goals each from Ahmet Turer and Juan Portillo have proved enough for Brunswick City to record a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Nunawading City on Saturday afternoon.

Both sides were coming into the game in last position in their respective NPL 1 divisions, and both having suffered heavy defeats in the week prior.

Brunswick was quick to take lead, when Ahmet Turer was fouled by Nunawading keeper Keegan Coulter inside the area.

Turer dusted himself off to smash the ball past Coulter’s outstretched arm to give Brunswick a 1-0 lead.

Brunswick was in the ascendancy throughout the opening period, despite Nunawading having possession it was rarely effective and lacked any real penetration.

The hosts could have been further ahead midway through the second half if it were not for the heroics of Coulter.  Reha Kurul was first denied, his point blank header was expertly pushed away by former Melbourne Victory keeper Coulter.

Portillo thought he had scored for Brunswick on the half hour mark when his top corner strike looked set to sneak into the top corner, but again Coulter was on hand to keep things respectable.

But Portillo didn’t have to wait long however to get on the scoresheet.  Nunawading lost the ball playing out from the back and Portillo had the easiest of tasks to simply slot the ball into the net.

After the break it was more of the same, Brunswick scoring early again through Turer who picked up a lose ball on the edge of the area before unleashing a wicked strike to beat Coulter.

Nunawading thought they had pulled one back through Anthony Giannopoulous soon after, but his effort was ruled out by the linesmans flag.

Brunswick sealed the 4-0 demolition when Anthony Ianchello supplied a lovely ball to Portill`o whose toe poke was enough to see the ball slip past Coulter and round off the victory.

Brunswick City striker Ahmet Turer was happy to continue his scoring form, a run which sees him with 4 goals in 4 games since his return from injury.

“Obviously its always great to score but it is all about the end result to be honest.” said Turer

“We knew this was a big opportunity for us to take the points today and to win 4-0 is a good result for us.

It was important to bounce back from last weeks poor performance and I think we did that well today.”
