Eight of the best from Bulleen

By Shaun Moran @moranshaun

Bulleen Lions has comfortably dealt with Brunswick City to notch up a resounding 8-0 victory in the Round 21 NPL1 clash at the Veneto Club on Monday night.

Goals came in from near and far on a night that the visiting side would want to forget in a hurry.

Bardhi Hysoli broke the deadlock minutes in when he got in behind his defender before composing himself and striking the ball sweetly beyond Mason Interlandi’s outstretched right hand.

Dean Romas’ aerial ball then picked out Takanori Nishimoto who managed to remain onside in the lead up to the game’s second goal.

The latter’s quick turn put him one on one with the City custodian and his left foot shot seeped in at the near post without any trouble.

Bulleen’s third goal began from an Alex Dao run as he careered into the area.

Rikiya Kitami took his man down in the process, which permitted Katebian to step up and discharge a low and hard shot to effectively wrap the match up half an hour in.

It was soon four when Nishimoto’s sublime run down the left hand side culminated in a perfectly weighted cross to the expectant Katebian.

He picked his spot before sending his header into the top corner of the net.

Brunswick’s intermittent attacks did very little to trouble the home side’s defence in what was a disheartening first period.

Nishimoto continued to toy with his defender on the edge of the area and a quarter of an hour into the second stanza, he finally opted to play in Katebian and his low strike found its way into the onion bag.

The sixth was virtually guaranteed when Dao was taken down following his one-two move with Katebian.

Dao himself stepped up to coolly slot the spot kick away and into the corner of the net.

Nishimoto’s second of the night and Bulleen’s seventh began with a deft right foot touch, that enabled him to come onto his left peg and expertly knock the ball home.

Dao’s splendid pass to Katebian then preceded an exquisite finish summed up what was an impeccable night for the Lions’ talisman.

City substitute Dimitri Vithoulkas attributed the defeat to his team’s inexperienced squad.

“It came down to patience,” Vithoulkas said.

“You can’t attack for 90 minutes. We couldn’t handle defending and that comes down to immaturity with the team having a lot of young boys.”

Lions coach Fabrizio Soncin was satisfied with his team’s approach to the contest.

“I was happy with the way we scored because the goals were right from the training paddock,” he said.

“The attitude of the players and the discipline was superb. We gave our young boys a chance too which was pleasing.”

He will be hoping for a similar result at home to Kingston City at the same time and place next week, while City returns home to face St Albans on Saturday afternoon.
