Morrison double leads Murray to win over Springvale

Murray United has taken three points with them on the bus ride home to Albury-Wodonga, having defeated Springvale White Eagles 1-2 at White Eagles Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

A second half double for Tom Morrison, both from outside the area, gave a comfortable margin for Murray United until Stojan Milojevic clawed one back for the White Eagles.

A tense final stage of the match was played out but resolute ball control and possession enabled United to hold on and record their third win of the season.

The first half was an even contest with neither side able to find the net or establish control. Of the two keepers, Springvale's Nebojsa Vujic was in action more, putting the gloves to four threatening shots on target from the Murray United forwards.

Play through the midfield was tight with short passing the order of the day.

James Coutts for United was impressive feeding the ball through to Darcy Pawlik who showed pace down the left wing.

For the red shirts it was newcomer Ryan Barbare who displayed flashes of class with deft touches working the ball past the United defence out to the Springvale wings.

After the break, it was United who came out the more aggressive. In the early stages of the second half they dominated control consistently pushing forward into the final third.

Morrison would break the deadlock with a strike from 25 yards which went over the outstretched arms of White Eagles keeper Vujic into the net.

Shortly after, Darcy Pawlik found space for United and raced into the area from the left wing to go one-on-one with the keeper.

Vujic came out hard and his save saw the visitors set up for the corner. Played short to Morrison near the edge of the area, he took two short touches before launching a rocket of a shot straight into the top left corner of the net to double the leader for Murray United.

The White Eagles lifted and for the first time started to test United's defensive line. Just a few minutes later, some aggressive attacking from Springvale resulted in a corner.

They played short and when the ball came across the top of the area, Stojan Milojevic sent it straight for the bottom left of the net.

A fake tap from Keletso Mthembu fooled the keeper and the ball went straight through his legs into the net.

Murray United played out the remaining time with strong possession denying Springvale the opportunity to get back into the match.

A corner for the White Eagles in stoppage time saw keeper Vujic come up into attack in an effort to equalise and secure a point. Alas it wasn't to be for the home team and Murray United came away 1-2 winners.

After the match, Murray United double goal scorer Morrison shared his thoughts on the game.

"it was a good game," Morrison said.

"We normally start off badly when we are away from home, but today we started off well.

"Springvale were very strong at the back.

"We had to adapt to the pitch conditions today, we couldn't play through the middle and had to knock it into the corners and take our chances.

"The whole team played well, especially [Ashley] Dunn and [James] Coutts in the middle."
