Knights, South, Thunder flex muscle

NPL clubs South Melbourne, Melbourne Knights and Dandenong Thunder have been the biggest movers in March, signing at least three players each.

With the inaugural NPL to kick off one week from today, we take a look at each of their new signings.

South Melbourne

Kobbie Boahene – The 19-year-old winger is a product of the Australian Institute of Sport and a former Melbourne Victory Youth player. Boahene boasts serious pace and can switch between wings, making him a genuine threat to opposition defences.

Andy Kecojevic - At just 15 years of age, Kecojevic’s elevation to South Melbourne’s senior NPL team shows just how highly regarded he is by coach Chris Taylor. Kecojevic is a product of the National Training Centre and both he and Boahene have scored in South Melbourne’s pre-season campaign. Kecojevic is the youngest player in a South Melbourne NPL squad which has just two players over 25.

Andrew Mullett – Mullett is a classy left-back who played for Dandenong Thunder and Oakleigh Cannons in the Victorian Premier League last season. His arrival – along with the signing of centre-back Michael Eagar from Northcote City - will reinforce South Melbourne’s defence.

Slaven Vranesevic - A tough and skillful midfielder, Vranesevic has had senior stints with Southern Stars and Springvale White Eagles. The youngster played an integral part in the White Eagles winning the State League 2 championship and was named the league's player of the year. Vranesevic is a former South Melbourne junior player and has spent time overseas with Serbian giant Red Star Belgrade, where he was part of the youth setup and trained with the senior squad.

Melbourne Knights

Daniel Visevic – 25-year-old Visevic is a former Australian youth international who played for the Knights in 2007. He joins the Knights from fellow NPL club Port Melbourne, where he made 19 appearances.

Rodrigo Covarrubias – Covarrubias is a 20-year-old forward who has arrived at Somers Street following a period abroad with Argentinian club Club Atlético Chacarita Juniors, as well as the River Plate U20 team. Covarrubias impressed with Pascoe Vale after joining the club in the latter part of the 2013 VPL season.

Antun Kovacic – Kovacic is a veteran centre-back who returns to the Knights after making 41 appearances for them in the old National Soccer League. He played in State League 2 last season for Dandenong City, which will play in NPL 1 this season.

Dandenong Thunder

Alan Mulcahy – An experienced central midfielder, 30 year-old Mulcahy played for Hume City last season and will be re-united with coach Dean Hennessey at the Thunder, who he played under during his three seasons at Southern Stars.

Jake Nakic – Nakic is a versatile player who can switch between central midfield and forward. The 21-year-old is a former Melbourne Victory Youth captain and boasts serious talent.

Alan Kearney – The 26-year-old Irishman joins the Thunder from fellow NPL club South Melbourne and will be re-united with coach Dean Hennessey from his playing days at Southern Stars. Kearney boasts leadership too, having vice-captained South Melbourne and Southern Stars.

Ramazan Tavsancioglu - Tavsancioglu joins the Thunder with a wealth of experience, having played in the A-League for Melbourne Victory and the now defunct North Queensland Fury. The defender has had stints at South Melbourne and Oakleigh Cannons and featured for Southern Stars in the 2013 VPL.
