Pascoe Vale makes it five wins in a row

Pascoe Vale has cemented it’s third win in a row as the side slammed four unanswered goals past a lacklustre Werribee side at CB Smith Reserveon Friday night.

A Joseph Youssef brace along with goals from Luca Santilli and Davey Van't Schip helped Paco earn its biggest ever win in the top tier of Victorian football.

Contrary to many of Werribee’s past performances, the opening 15 minutes of the match displayed a very attacking brand of football commencing in just the first minute of play when a header from Steven Cudrig was directed onto goal line, only to be cleared by the Pascoe Vale defence.

Just 5 minutes later Werribee caused another scare as a textbook long range half volley from Simon Zappia was deflected brilliantly onto the crossbar by ever-reliable Paco custodian Alex Pavlidis.

Against the run of play, Pascoe Vale’s Mathew Lazarides’ attempted cross-cum-shot had Werribee keeper Frano Saric clutching at air as he could do nothing but sit and watch the ball strike the crossbar, and bounce into the path of Luca Santilli.

However Santilli’s header towards an empty net somehow lobbed over the bar, cue a roar of disbelief from the Paco faithful.

After a few wasted half chances, Paco broke ahead just on the quarter hour mark as a bouncing Michael Ferrante through ball found Santilli who cooly lobbed the ball over the head of Saric and into the back of the net.

Within thirty seconds of the restart, Youssef was taken down just inside the 18 yard box in an incident referee Bruno D’Aniello deemed a penalty.

The chance to double the lead was slotted calmly into the right hand corner by centre half Tomislav Milardovic.

The second half followed the same vein as the first as Pascoe Vale maintained their dominance over a rather lethargic Werribee side.

The first chance of the second half was converted well by Davey Van't Schip as his right-footed shot slammed off the inside of the right upright and found the net, all but putting the game beyond reach for the visitors.

The final nail in the coffin was again instigated by D’Aniello’s whistle as Youssef was again pulled to ground in the box.

This time Youssef stepped up and converted his penalty right down the middle of the net giving him his second of the night and extending his incredible goalscoring form of late.

The result sees Pascoe Vale move 10 points clear of seventh spot with Northcote still yet to play its match against Oakleigh on Saturday.

Contrarily the result leaves Werribee just the solitary point clear of the NPL drop zone.
