2015 Player Points System rosters released

Football Federation Victoria has released the PlayStation 4 NPL Victoria Player Points System [PPS] rosters for the 2015 season.

The PPS totals calculate every NPL club’s senior rosters, based on their playing history, previous clubs, ages, with certain attributes in players being rewarded.

“It’s a good thing for Victorian football,” head of NPL Liam Bentley said.

“It encourages clubs to promote youth because it not only rewards loyalty of long-term senior players, but also players who have come through the youth system."

“The PPS, as it tightens, will stop clubs going out and signing a completely new squad every year.”

Prior to the start of the season, every club in the NPL was given access to a draft calculator where they could work out how much each player was worth according to the PPS, and build a draft squad.

Clubs were asked to submit their final rosters prior to the FFV Community Shield.

The MyFootballClub team would spend the next few weeks reviewing the rosters, and calculating just how much each club’s PPS total was.

“It was an arduous task to go through almost 700 players’ histories, but the MyFootballClub team got there,” Bentley said.

“They had to go through each player’s detailed history, some of which I stress may be incomplete because of the change in systems over the past 10-15 years, and calculate the total based on the information available.”

Each player is attributed a base value of 10 points, with the player’s value then adjusted in accordance with the PPS criteria.

Players that are 22 or younger have a point taken off of their total for every year the player is under 23 – i.e. a 21-year-old has two points taken off of his base value.

Homegrown players are also rewarded, with a player having a point deducted for every season where the player has been registered in the club’s youth system.

Loyalty in first team players is also rewarded, with a player having a point deducted for each continuous complete season he has spent with the club, starting from his fifth season onwards.

Visa players accrue another 10 points in value, with players who have switched between clubs accruing another one to five points, depending on their circumstances.

There is a range of other bonuses available to clubs, including bonus points for players being selected in pathway teams such as NTC, National Youth League or even A-League, all of which are available at the bottom of each linked PPS total below:
