FFV Statement regarding South Melbourne v Melbourne Victory

Following completion of its investigation into this matter, FFV identified and charged 17 individuals as a result of incidents which occurred at the above fixture on April 24, 2016.

Those charges were heard on Monday night by an Independent Tribunal. Of the 17 individuals charged, all were found or pleaded guilty to the charges in question. The Tribunal handed down the following penalties:

  • For the 11 individuals who failed to appear at the tribunal, 5 year bans from any involvement in football in Victoria, including playing, spectating, coaching, and refereeing. These individuals have 14 days leave to apply to FFV for a hearing; and
  • For the 6 individuals who appeared at the Tribunal, various bans between 3 months and 1 year from playing football in Victoria, and between 1 year and 3 years from any other involvement in football in Victoria, including playing, spectating, coaching, and refereeing.

Charges will be issued shortly against Melbourne Victory FC in relation to the actions of Club Associates (spectators) on April 24, 2016. Those charges will be referred to the Independent Tribunal for hearing in the near future.

FFV’s investigation into fan behavior at this fixture continues in an attempt to identify further individuals from both Clubs responsible for the behavior in question. If/when those individuals can be identified; they will be charged and referred to the Independent Tribunal for hearing.

FFV will not be making any further comment on this matter until it is resolved.
