Gully sign off with win

By Marissa Lordanic

Green Gully have ended season 2015 with a 4-1 victory over Avondale FC at Green Gully Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors opened the scoring through Alex Khrapko in the 17th minute before Alon Blumgart equalised less than a minute later.

Gully then added three goals, from Liam Boland, Matthew Breeze and Luc Jeggo, to complete the win.

The match began brightly with Avondale attacking early. In only the second minute Sanders’ cross floated into the box and was narrowly missed by Colosimo.

Avondale’s number four then turned provider to help the visitors find the back of the net first. Colosimo was instrumental down the left flank and his cross was met by Khrapko who rose highest and headed the ball past Rani Dowisha.

Gully replied almost immediately with Breeze playing in Alon Blumgart, whose low strike beat Frazer Siddall.

Colosimo continued to exploit the wide spaces for the away side and his cross into the box in the 20th minute found the head of Sanders, but his shot was stopped by Dowisha.

Both sides continued to create chances and played high tempo football.

Gully were then given the chance to take the lead into the half time break when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on the edge of the box.

Liam Boland coolly converted the spot kick and the home side lead 2-1 at half time.

The re-start saw the teams continue to press and play attacking football.
Just past the hour mark Blumgart squared the ball to Simon Tolli who, despite having a free shot on goal, blasted the ball over the cross bar.

Three minutes later Gully netted their third. Matthew Breeze’s brilliant individual run saw him burst past the Avondale defence, setting up a one on one with Siddall, his low strike beating the ‘keeper.

Avondale pushed in the final stages of the match to find a second goal, and appeared to do so in the 84th minute. However Khrapko was deemed to be in an offside position and the goal didn’t stand.

The home side topped off a solid performance with a goal in injury time. A swift counter attack saw Luc Jeggo in a one on one with Siddall, the substitute slotting home Gully’s fourth.
