Box Hill stretches unbeaten run to nine

By Andrew Bishara

Box Hill continued its unbeaten streak with an impressive 4-1 win over Dandenong City at Wembley Park on Saturday.

A double from Lucas Johns, plus strikes from Sebastian Barrero and Michael Godfrey, cancelled out Ashley Cattermole's first half penalty as United made it nine games without a loss.

Johns put United in the lead when a poor headed clearance came right to him in the box.

Chesting it, the winger then clipped a lofted volley that went right into the top corner leaving City goalkeeper Damir Salcin out of reach.

The visitors could have drawn level immediately when Chris Antoniadis failed to connect a spilled ball from United custodian Alex Connell and send the ball over.

Despite the lack of the clear cut chances the pace of the game was electric, as both sides played some quick football.

Antoniadis had another chance when during a scramble in the box, the winger struck a hard shot that went wide.

City pushed United deep into its half, and against the run of play, the hosts doubled their lead.

A beautiful one-two between Johns and Barrero saw the latter cut into the box and hit a shot right at the incoming Salcin.

The ball though bounced off the keeper and into the path of Barrero who cracked it into the net.

United was unlucky not to be three-nil up when Caleb Ludlum's deft shot from just outside the box cracked off the crossbar and just bounced off the line.

City was then given a lifeline when Joey Calderone was adjudged to have brought down Sean Seavill in the box.

Cattermole stepped up to the spot and buried the penalty.

Early in the second half Seavill had a chance on goal but the striker fluffed his lines.

United then extended its lead when Godfrey somehow got his head onto the ball from a free kick as it bounced over Salcin and slowly rolled into the net.

It was effectively game over several minutes later when Johns scored a lovely solo goal.

Collecting a loose ball, the winger broke into a run, sidestepping past three defenders before burying a low drive into the corner.

The two goals knocked the stuffing out of City, as United were happy to close the game out.
