Moreland City snatches late win off Suns

Super-sub Lisandro Paz struck an 87th minute winner for Moreland City as the side came from a goal behind to defeat the Goulburn Valley Suns in Shepparton.

Cody Selwood, playing in a more advance role in the middle of the park, gave the home side the lead with a wicked left-footed strike just before the half hour mark.

But Moreland wouldn’t go into the half time break empty handed, Thomas slotting its opening goal from the penalty spot before Paz stole the show late on.

The home side was clearly the more dominant in the opening period, even without suspended duo Craig Carley and Naum Sekulovski.

Shaun Kane slotted into the central striker role in the absence of Carley and should have given his side the lead after breaking through the offside trap, only for Brandon Galgano to continue his stellar form and deny the Scotsman.

City almost took the lead itself moments later when a Nejdet Sahin free kick was met at the back post by Yianni Avramidis, but his headed effort was tame.

The Suns did take the lead however when Selwood received a delightful ball from Firaol Likassa, the former making no mistake and burying his 25-yard strike into the bottom right hand corner.

Moreland got itself back into the match in first-half stoppage time when Suns 'keeper Petrovski fouled Liam Francis.

Thomas stepped up and hammered his penalty into the back of the net.

The Suns introduced Sean Ellis for the first time in a month, and his impact was immediate.

His stunning free kick was expertly plucked out of the top corner by an emphatic save from Galgano.

With 15 minutes to play, and the visitors slowly working their way back into the game, the hosts were dealt a blow when Jamie England saw red for a second bookable offence.

Paz would be the winner once again for City, his stinging drive to much for Petrovski as the visitors went home with all three points.
