Bendigo cruises past Brunswick with big win

Bendigo City has clinched a 3-0 victory over Brunswick City with ease on Saturday afternoon at Epsom Huntly Reserve.

Riley Dillon opened the scoring at 34 minutes, before adding to the lead in the 40th minute, while Greg Thomas concluded the scoring at 69 minutes to seal Bendigo City’s success.

Bendigo asserted its dominance early in the first half as Corey Slevin’s shot passed only inches wide of the goal.

Brunswick goalkeeper Jake Crea was soon called into action, having to hold Thomas’ first attempt at goal only 7 minutes into the match.

It was a relatively quiet opening stanza until 34 minutes, when Dillon finished calmly past Crea to open the scoring.

Dillon struck again only minutes later to cement Bendigo’s position in the match with a magnificent – yet seemingly effortless - chip into an unoccupied goal to double the lead.

Brunswick fought back and almost had a goal back when Frank Serratore hammered the ball just wide of goal only minutes before halftime.

The second half began wit hteh same pace of the opening half hour.

Bendigo finally found its third when Greg Thomas connected with a huge volley to increase the lead to 3-0.

Brunswick then threw the bus at Bendigo in search of a goal, and at 77 minutes Matthew Murphy almost got one back, but his shot was wide.

Minutes later Brunswick’s Anthony Ianchello tried his luck with a controlled shot, but it too was wide.

From there, the visitors faded away and Bendigo almost capitalised again when Rylan Sadler found Karl Slevin, who put in a wicked cross to Sam Scoble, but his shot was smothered by the Brunswick defence.

With minutes to go, Bendigo almost found its fourth after some interplay between Sadler and Scoble led to a cross to George Slefendorfas, whose header flew just inches over the bar.

But in the end it mattered little as Bendigo ran out comfortable 3-0 winners.
