Bulleen's late comeback earns win in Bendigo

By Eva Worden (@evajworden)

FC Bulleen Lions have defeated Bendigo City FC in a late scoring 3-1 victory at Epsom Huntly Reserve on Saturday night.

In a chaotic match, Corey Slevin was first to score and place Bendigo in the box seat mid-way through the second half, until Sami Nour entered the fray and got two of the Lions’ three goals, with Sayeed Reza Hussaini securing the win.

The visitors asserted their dominance with early possession as Dean Lorenzi had the opening chance for Bulleen, but headed wide.

At 29 minutes Bendigo appeared sure to score as Karl Slevin crossed to George McHeileh who in turn found George Slefendorfas, but his header cleared the crossbar by inches.

The teams went into the half at 0-0, and it took almost another half an hour to separate them.

At 72 minutes a cross-field ball from Riley Dillon found Slevin, who effortlessly put Bendigo into the lead with a clever chip.

But it took Bulleen just six minutes to equalise as substitute Nour cleverly equalised at 78 minutes.

Bulleen had a chance to take the lead through Hussaini, but his text-book volley was saved well by a diving Gianmarco D’Oria.

But the Lions got their go-ahead goal in the 87th minute through Nour. His pace took him one-on-one with D’Oria, and snuck his shot past the keeper to place it perfectly in the corner of the net.

Despite being in the lead the visitors displayed no signs of slowing down and Nour went for a hat-trick only for D’oria to deny him.

But the game was secured after Hussaini found Gianni De Nittis, whose cross then found Hussaini again, but his effort was punched by D’Oria. Hussaini wasn’t done yet, getting on the end of the punch and nodding the rebound into the net.
