Brilliant Bendigo puts five past resilient Murray

Bendigo City has clinched a 5-2 win over Murray United at Epsom Huntly Reserve on Saturday afternoon.

George Mcheileh’s early opener set the scene with George Slefendorfas doubling the lead before the half. Corey Slevin scoring twice after the break, while Slefendorfas aso completed his rout with his brace, but goals to Morrison and Waters weren’t enough for Murray to make a difference.

The first goal of the match came at the 10 minute mark, as Mcheileh effortlessly chipped the ball over young keeper Nathan Brown to make it 1-0.

At 22 minutes, Murray’s Adam Waters’ strike came close only for goalkeeper Gianmarco D’Oria to thwart the visitors’ hopes of an early equaliser.

It should have come less than 10 minutes later when Darcy Pawlik hammeded a shot into the crossbar, with fate once again denying the visitors.

Perhaps against the run of play, Papua New Guinean international Slefendorfas doubled Bendigo’s lead after 40 minutes with a lovely volley to see out the half.

Bendigo rocketed out of the half as Corey Slevin made the lead 3-0 within minutes of kickoff, getting his first of the day with a lovely chip.

He got his brace shortly after with a placed shot that glided past Brown to make it 4-0 at 49 minutes.

But Murray wasn’t about to give up; at 55 minutes Tom Morrison got one back with a textbook volley.

The comeback was on at the 71st minute with Waters punishing a volley past D’Oria to make it 4-2.

But despite Murray’s best efforts, the comeback never came, and Bendigo quashed all hopes of a resurgence with a Slefendorfas volley at 89 minutes to cap the game off at 5-2.
