Avondale, Hume share points as new boys star

Avondale FC and Hume City have shared the points after a 1-1 draw at Avondale Heights Reserve on Saturday afternoon.

A five minute burst at the beginning of the second half saw Paul Harvey put the visitors ahead in the 48th minute. The lead lasted all of two minutes with one of Avondale’s new signings, Jacob Colosimo, finding an equaliser.

Both sides creating half chances early with Nick Hegarty prominent early. The contest was physical with a few altercations between players slowing the game down.

Hume went close to scoring in the 36th minute. Paul Harvey’s header from the corner kick was just wide of the goal.

Avondale went down the other end and had two superb chances of their own, arguably the best of the half.

Alex Krapkho’s shot just inside the box forced Hume’s Chris Oldfield down into a reflex, low save, putting it out for a corner.

The resulting set piece was played out low to Jacob Colosimo who attempted to squeeze the ball between Oldfield and the near post. However the keeper was alert to the danger and collected.

Both sides came out of the blocks hungry at the restart and it was Hume City who scored first through Paul Harvey.

Jai Ingham’s cross found the number nine unmarked in the centre of the box, his header finding its way past Avondale keeper, Frazer Siddall.

The home side’s reply was almost immediate with Jacob Colosimo scoring his first goal for his new club in the 50th minute.

Hume gave up possession and Colosimo was able to beat Hume’s defence and place his low shot perfectly into the right hand corner.

The home side continued to apply pressure to Hume, with Jonathon Munoz’s effort from a set piece just wide of the post.

They struggled to find the killer pass needed to grab the lead, with Colosimo and Jason Principato wasting opportunities to square the ball across the face of goal; their attempts cut out by City’s defence.

Hume dominated the final minutes of play, but Avondale was still threatening on the counter. Despite a much more even and entertaining contest in the second half, neither side was able to net a winner and claim all three points.
