Galgano leads 10-man Moreland to point against Richmond

A 10-man Moreland City outfit has goalkeeper Brandon Galgano to thank, claiming a 1-1 draw against Richmond Eagles on Friday night.

Galgano was in inspired form at Kevin Bartlett Reserve, making a series of saves - highlighted by a stunning second-half stop to keep out Samuel Catherine from 30 yards - to help Moreland City come away from the NPL1 clash with a point.

Kam Simsek had given them an 18th-minute lead after a howler from Richmond goalkeeper Chris Davis, but the hosts did at least take something from a match they controlled when Jay Kelly tapped in from close range shortly after half-time. The fiery encounter saw eight cards dished out as Moreland's Orrie Kara was sent off late on.

Davis dropped a routine cross from the left and Simsek pounced to head in from four yards and give the visitors an early advantage.

Galgano's first meaningful contribution saw him keep out Tom Cahill in the 24th minute and he reacted quickly to deny Tim Purcell on the rebound.

Cahill could have levelled on the stroke of half-time from a tight angle, but again found Galgano equal to the task.

The Richmond striker turned provider in the 54th minute, though, and after an impressive run down the left, crossed for Kelly to turn in the equaliser.

Moreland almost produced a swift response, but Osman Kose's sublime 25-yard free-kick crashed off the crossbar before Mo Kurucu forced Davis into a good save on the follow-up.

Despite the brief scare, Richmond was in control, and Galgano's effort to tip Catherine's long-range strike behind for a corner was superb.

Moreland's impressive right-back Yang Tou-Yeng then cleared Joshua Valadon's header off the line from the resultant corner before Kara was given his marching orders for a second yellow card.

The chances kept coming for the hosts, as Catherine shot wide and Kelly fired over, while at the other end, Gareth Richards was scythed down by Matthew Collier when through on goal.

But there was to be no late winner for either side as they shared the spoils on a night that belonged to Galgano.
